Ушел из жизни почетный доктор СПбГУ Эрнст Фредерик Конрад Кернер

Основная область научных интересов проф. Кернера – история языкознания. Он автор сотен научных трудов (статей и монографий), инициатор и издатель авторитетнейших серийных изданий, таких как Studies in the History of the Language Sciences, Library and Information Sources in Linguistics, Amsterdam Classics in Linguistics, Current Issues in Linguistic Theory, основатель и редактор журналов Historiographia Linguistics и Diachronica.

22 декабря 2003 года Ученый совет СПбГУ присудил проф. Кёрнеру звание Почетного доктора Санкт-Петербургского университета «за выдающийся вклад в развитие историографии лингвистики и теории языкознания и укрепление международного сотрудничества».

В том же году Кёрнер передал в дар нашей Библиотеке более 1000 томов бесценных изданий, книг и журналов.

На протяжении многих лет Э.Ф.К. Кернер активно сотрудничал с учеными СПбГУ. По его инициативе и при его участии в качестве сопредседателя 2011 году в Санкт-Петербургском университете была организована XII Международная конференция по истории наук о языке, явившаяся важнейшей вехой в истории главного международного объединения ученых, занятых изучением истории языкознания, основанного Э. Ф. К. Кернером.

Многим из нас посчастливилось сотрудничать с Э.Ф.К. Кернером, и мы помним то внимание, которое он уделял редактируемым им текстам и такт, с которым относился к их авторам. Благодаря такому сотрудничеству мы можем считать себя частью той ведущей мировой школы в области истории языкознания, которую сумел создать Э.Ф.К. Кернер.

Мы гордимся тем, что членом нашего университетского сообщества являлся выдающийся ученый, усилиями которого история языкознания превратилась в современную научную дисциплину, и скорбим об утрате, которую понесла с его уходом мировая наука о языке.

It is with deepest sorrow that we must inform you of the passing away, on January 6, 2022, of the renowned linguist Ernst Frideryk Conrad Koerner (born 1939, Torun, Poland), formerly professor at the University of Ottawa (Canada) and member of the Center for General Linguistics (Berlin, Germany).

Professor Koerner's main interests lay in the domain of the history of linguistics. He is the author of hundreds of works (articles and monographs), initiator and editor of numerous most important series, such as Studies in the History of the Language Sciences, Library and Information Sources in Linguistics, Amsterdam Classics in Linguistics and Current Issues in Linguistic Theory, and the founder and many years’ editor of the journals Historiographia Linguistics and Diachronica.

On December 22, 2003, the Academic Council of St. Petersburg State University awarded Professor Koerner the title of Honorary Doctor “for his outstanding contribution to the development of the historiography of linguistics and the theory of linguistics as well as the strengthening of international cooperation”.

That same year, Koerner donated more than 1,000 volumes of priceless publications, books and magazines, to our Library.

For many years E.F.K. Koerner has been actively cooperating with scholars of St. Petersburg State University and St. Petersburg in general. On his initiative and with his participation as co-chair, in 2011, the 12th International Conference on the History of the Language Sciences was held at St. Petersburg University. It was a major milestone in the history of the main international association of scholars engaged in the study of the history of linguistics. E. F. K. Koerner was also its founder.

Many of us were fortunate enough to work with E. F. K. Koerner, and we remember the attention he paid to the texts he was editing and his tact in respect to their authors. Owing to this cooperation, we can regard ourselves a part of that leading world school in the history of linguistics which E. F. K. Koerner was able to create.

We are proud that this outstanding scholar, whose efforts have transformed the history of linguistics into a modern scientific discipline, was a member of our University community, and we grieve for the loss that the world science of language has suffered with his passing away.
